(Hong Kong: 22 February 2019) The WMA Open 2019 calls for submission of images from every member of the public according to the theme “Opportunity”. From 22 February to 29 April 2019 (Deadline for submission: 23:59 Hong Kong time; GMT +8:00), images submitted to the WMA Open photo contest will have the chance to win prizes, including cash and professional development opportunities.

One of the several WMA programmes held year-round, the WMA Open is a photo contest, a public platform for discussion, a springboard for social transformation and a photographic archive of contemporary Hong Kong. To encourage public discourse inspired by the photo submitted, WMA maintains a gallery of photo entries that is accessible for educational and non-commercial uses under the Creative Commons licenses (open.wma.hk/gallery).  Images submitted must relate to the theme, “Opportunity” and be created in Hong Kong. Participant can upload a series of works, up to three images, to the WMA Open photo contest website (open.wma.hk/).

A panel of judges, including WMA Masters 2017/18 winner YIM Sui-fong, WMA Masters 2016/17 winner Wei Leng TAY, and WMA Masters 2013, 14/15 winner SIU Wai Hang will select 10 finalists who will be offered a number of professional development opportunities coached by experienced photographers or artists, as well as the chance to showcase their works at future WMA exhibitions. Among the 10 finalists, 3 will be chosen as the winners of this cycle, each receiving a cash prize of HK$12,000.
